Brian May on ‘having to take step back’, dealing with ‘jealousy’ of other great guitarists

Brian said: “One of those things was dismay at seeing the jealousies and unkind comments about artists whose work I got excited about and endorsed.

“I felt that it was I who had sparked off this hurtful behaviour. So it’s been a while since I highlighted any work that struck me – although I’ve continued to enjoy so many of your works, dear artist friends, privately.

“I get jealous too – of guitarists who can do great things that I can’t. And then I smile and realise I’m allowed to love what they do.”

The 74-year-old said how we all feel the tug of “the green-eyed monster” when someone else gets the credit for something that we think should be ours.
