Deluded Fritzl thinks his family will forgive him because 'he didn't kill anyone'

Josef Fritzl, the notorious Austrian man who held his own daughter captive in a cellar for 24 years and fathered seven children with her, has given an interview from behind bars where he describes his dream of freedom and seeing his family again. The deluded Fritzl also stated that he wants to live to be 130 years old and revealed his strict fitness regimen to stay in shape for potential release from prison.

Fritzl’s comments, made through his lawyer Astrid Wagner, include sickening boasts about reconciling with the family he kept in captivity for over two decades.

He added: “I definitely believe that I am going to see them again one day.”

Josef Fritzl, an electrical engineer, imprisoned his daughter Elisabeth for 24 years in a cellar, where he sexually abused her and fathered seven children with her.

It is suspected that he also has illegitimate children from affairs on foreign business trips.

In 2009, Fritzl was sentenced to life imprisonment for various crimes, including incest, rape, false imprisonment, enslavement, and negligent homicide of one of his infant sons.

Elisabeth, who disappeared when she was 18, was found in 2008 in the dungeon-like basement that Fritzl built beneath their family home in Amstetten, Austria.

The abuse resulted in the birth of seven children, three of whom were kept captive with their mother, while one died at the hands of Fritzl shortly after birth, and the body was disposed of in an incinerator.

Fritzl and his wife, Rosemarie, raised the other three children who were not kept captive with their mother.

Rosemarie divorced Fritzl after his crimes were exposed. However, in a recent interview Fritzl remained defiantly optimistic that he would one day be released and his family would forgive him.

Describing the daily rigours of his diet and exercise plan, he told the Sun: “Everyday I start with a coffee. I have to have this to wake up properly, then this is quickly followed by a cup of hot cocoa.

“After this I have tea, and eat three eggs, a piece of toast with ham, and also a sausage and cheese spread, and I make sure to take vitamin C tablets, and magnesium and zinc.”

Deluded Fritzl – who is understood to be suffering with dementia – added: “I also drink lots of water throughout the day. I recently read that it has been scientifically proven that human beings can actually live to 150 if they eat well and exercise.

“So I want to live to 130 – that’s my plan.”

Fritzl, who now uses a rollator trolley to walk, reportedly wrote in a letter that he understands why some people wish for him to die in jail. He said: “But I want to experience freedom one day. I’ve never been afraid of dying.”

According to reports, Fritzl has been avoiding walking in the prison yard due to fear of being attacked by fellow prisoners.

In June 2022, the Higher Regional Court in Vienna ruled that he would remain in the high-security prison for mentally ill criminals, reversing a previous decision to transfer him to a regular prison.

Fritzl, who is now 87 years old, will continue to serve his life sentence for incest, rape, coercion, false imprisonment, enslavement, and the negligent homicide of one of his infant sons.

The Krems regional court confirmed the decision, saying: “The Higher Regional Court (OLG) Vienna has recognised the need for further accommodation in an institution for mentally abnormal lawbreakers.”
