Harry and Meghan accused of 'taking advantage' of Royal Family's silence during holidays

NewsHarry and Meghan accused of 'taking advantage' of Royal Family's silence during holidays

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have had a busy month so far and one royal commentator claims the timing is far from an accident.

The couple were announced as producers behind a big new Netflix movie, while Harry has jetted off to Japan and Singapore so far this month.

This shows that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are trying to take advantage of the Royal Family’s silence during their annual holidays, according to the Daily Mail’s Diary Editor Richard Eden

He explained: “August is the dead month for the Royal Family when they are on holiday

“But it seems to be something planned for Harry and Meghan far in advance.

“Not only have we had a string of announcements and stories about their show business career, but we have also had these engagements that Harry is carrying out.”

Earlier this month, the couple were announced as producers behind a screen version of Carley Fortune’s novel The Meet Me At The Lake as part of their £80million deal with Netflix.

The streaming giant bought the rights to the book for £3million.

Meanwhile, Meghan was spotted this week at Taylor Swift’s Era tour, at SoFi stadium in Los Angeles on Tuesday.

At the same time, Harry was seen in Japan ahead of the ISPS Sports Values Summit-Special Edition in Tokyo.

On Saturday he travelled to Singapore, for the Sentebale ISPS Honda Polo Cup.

Mr Eden suggested that the announcements and trips were part of a ploy to present themselves as an “alternative Royal Family”.

The royal commentator said: “Harry and Meghan are always keen to show that they are the Royal Family across the water.

“August is their month to shine.”

Assistant editor of the Mail on Sunday, Kate Mansey, said it will be “interesting to watch” how Harry and Meghan commemorate Princess Diana’s death anniversary at the end of August, as well as the late Queen’s in September.
