Martin Roberts hit headlines last year when he launched a social media campaign in a bid to get a spot on Strictly Come Dancing. In a video shared on Twitter, the Homes Under the Hammer star encouraged his followers to start using the hashtag #martin4strictly in the hopes it would get the attention of BBC bosses. Despite missing out on the 2021 series of the dance competition, Martin’s hopeful he might have a chance to be in this year’s Strictly line-up.

It’s far too early for Strictly Come Dancing bosses to announce the 2022 line-up for the BBC dance contest.

However, Martin seems keen to get a place on the iconic Strictly dance floor.

Chatting exclusively to Express.co.uk, Martin explained why he first launched his Strictly social media campaign.

He exclaimed: “I was actually asking the people at Strictly if there’s any chance they might actually take a phone call from me this year!”

After missing out on the 2021 series of the BBC dance competition, Martin signed up for ITV’s Strictly themed edition of The Real Full Monty.

The show sees celebrities take their clothes off on stage for a special strip performance in a bid to raise money and awareness for cancer charities.

Martin commented: “I’ve ended up doing Strictly The Real Full Monty which wasn’t quite what I was anticipating.

“But, actually that’s been just incredible and is something I’m so proud to have done,” he added.

“It might be the opposite. Maybe they’ll go ‘Actually, you know what he’s a good sport, he gives it his all and actually he can dance’.”

He worked hard to learn a special dance routine which was choreographed by Diversity star Ashley Banjo.

Martin eventually performed it on stage alongside fellow celebrities James Jordan, Duncan James, Colin Jackson and Teddy Soares.

Martin went on to detail the technical dance skills he had to learn for Strictly The Real Full Monty.
