Chilling CCTV footage has left a mum terrified to spend time in her own back garden.
Laura Collard, 36, moved to Netherley, Liverpool, with her 10-year-old son and partner in 2017 without knowing they had picked a local car accident hotspot.
Their home backs out onto the meeting point of two local roads, Childwall Valley Road and Caldway Drive, seemingly a tricky point to navigate for some drivers.
Ms Collard told the Liverpool ECHO she was told a car had “gone through the back fence” of her property “a few years ago” after moving in, but didn’t think much of it at first.
But her family quickly became overwhelmed by frequent accidents in their back garden, and they have caught distressing crashes on CCTV.
The mum has been left scared to spend time in her back garden after a camera she installed captured crashes next door and across the road from her home.
She told the ECHO: “We have had to install a CCTV camera just in case a car comes through the back.
“We have caught cars going through next door’s back wall, and people who live over the road from us.”
Ms Collard added that her neighbours are just as scared and won’t even venture outside to mow their rear lawns.
She added: “We don’t use our back garden anymore just in case somebody comes through, we’re lucky to have a front garden we can use.
“Our next-door neighbours don’t even mow their grass anymore or go out the back because it just happens over and over again. It’s scary.”
The mum said there have been dozens of incidents on the road behind her home, and, during one such incident, a woman was thrown off her motorbike and suffered minor injuries when swerving to avoid a car.
In another, Ms Collard’s brick wall was smashed in, and she has claimed that, despite telling the dangers posed by the busy intersection, Liverpool City Council has not responded to her.
A spokesman for the council said: “We are awaiting additional information from Merseyside Police regarding any recent reported injury road traffic collisions at this location.
“We will then undertake a review of the location to assess the condition of the road infrastructure and whether any improvement works are required.”
