Transfermarkt value the 2018/19 Champions League winner at £22.5m, but the Reds could easily demand a fee almost double that if they are adamant that Gomez is an integral part of their plans.

Klopp may have learned his lesson from having limited options in midfield currently due to injury and is simply bolstering their depth in defence to prevent further issues, but having too many top-quality central defenders in one squad could prove a recipe for disaster.

Nat Phillips, presumably fifth choice centre back, has been linked with a move away from Anfield due to how he is no longer an important asset for the club, and with Gomez the fourth choice it could push him to the bottom of the pile.

It remains to be seen how the situation pans out and if Klopp can continue to juggle his strong squad in order to keep as many parties happy as possible, or whether Gomez will take his future and international career into his own hands and ask for a move.
