Kate allowed to 'steal the limelight' as King knows 'that's how the monarchy will survive'

The Princess of Wales “steals the limelight” with the King’s “blessing” as he is aware of her value to the monarchy, an expert has claimed. This comes after various insiders have reportedly voiced their fears that the Princess is “stealing” the King’s spotlight over the amount of coverage she receives – particularly on her recent surprise visit to the Chelsea Flower Show. The King and Queen Camilla also attended – marking the King’s first visit as monarch – but much of the coverage focused on Kate.

Royal expert Robert Jobson has discussed the King’s apparent concern that his elder son and daughter-in-law are stealing his thunder in his recent comment piece for the Daily Mail.

Jobson wrote: “Whilst it is Charles’s head that wears the crown, it is William, Catherine and their children that will steal the limelight. They are bound to. And it is right.”

He added: “This time, it will be with Charles’s blessing – for he knows for monarchy to survive it must be relevant to the younger generation.”

Jobson added: “There is no doubt that Charles’s position as the paterfamilias is established.

“After William and his family, The Princess Royal and the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh have declared their unreserved support to the Crown. Over time any uncertainty will fade.”

The royal expert then said that the Princess’s latest visit to the Chelsea Flower Show potentially “drew more attention than his own visit” – but that Kate and Prince William “make headlines for the right reasons”.

He described William and Kate as a “double act” and stated that the two of them have “pulling power”.

The Prince and Princess of Wales took centre place on the Palace balcony on May 6, following the King’s Coronation.

The royal couple were joined by their two youngest children, as well as their eldest son – who acted as one of the King’s Pages of Honour – further down the balcony line.

The family-of-five moved to Windsor last year, an evident change from their former life in London. Despite the move away from the city, they have gained a more prominent role within the monarchy, with them acting involving their children as, and when, they can.
