King Charles III and Queen Camilla have made a surprise appearance on American Idol following the historic Coronation held last weekend.
The royals were welcomed onto the show by Katy Perry and Lionel Richie – both performed at Sunday’s Coronation concert.
Katy and Lionel were talking with American Idol host Ryan Seacrest when he asked how the festivities in the UK were going.
Lionel said: “What a party. It was unbelievable.”
Katy also replied: “It was incredible and we’re here for the coronation concert at Windsor Castle.”
Lionel then told the American viewers that he had a “surprise”, saying: “Now we are trying to figure out what we can do to bring something different to the show. So…I have a surprise.”

He then welcomed the King and Queen into shot, greeted with cheers by those watching across the pond.
The King chuckled as he asked the two singers: “I just wanted to check how long you will be using this room for. I just wanted to check.”
Camilla grinned as Lionel said: “We have to give up the room up right away.”
He then thanked the royals for coming, to which Charles said: “No, thank you for your brilliant performance and thank Katy as well. It really was.”
The King also told Lionel and Katy that it was “great to have you both here” in the UK for the Coronation.
Katy added: “We are coming to the party.”
Charles once again hailed the two singers, saying: “Well, you deserve it. Bless you.”
The two royals then walked out of shot, with host Ryan saying: “That is the royal treatment. I found myself standing up straighter while I was watching that right there.”
Katy and Lionel are usually judges on American Idol. While they were absent, Alanis Morissette and Ed Sheeran filled in for the season 21 episode.
American Idol will return Sunday on ABC.
