King Charles surprised Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney when he called the Wrexham AFC owners after the success of their Disney Plus series Welcome to Wrexham.
In the trailer for season two, the pair can be seen reflecting on the moment His Majesty called them and even paid a visit to the iconic Racecourse Ground.
Ryan said of the surprise: “So, the King of England called.
“I would say that we’re impossibly excited to welcome him to the Racecourse Ground, this historic church that resides in the heart of Wrexham and is the heart of Wrexham.
“Rob and I both said early on, and this holds true and for the rest of our lives, we will do anything to uplift and elevate this community and this club and having the King pay a visit is certainly one way to do it. That’s for sure. Very excited.”
Footage showed King Charles and Queen Camilla arrive at the football ground and shake hands with the owners.
They were then pictured posing for photos on the pitch and even sharing a joke or two.
But despite the exciting surprise visit, Ryan and Rob felt more pressure than ever to see Wrexham promoted.
Ryan exclaimed: “Oh my God, the expectation. Dear God.”
Rob continued: “If we do not get promoted this year, the club is completely and wholly unsustainable.”
The burden isn’t just winning and getting out of this league, it’s never letting down this community,” Ryan added.
Rob went on to share: “Wrexham as a club, as a town, are the underdogs.”
Ryan remarked he saw Wrexham as “the most special gift I’ve had in my life”.
Welcome to Wrexham will return to Disney Plus and FX on September 12.
