Bernardo Silva, Kevin de Bruyne, Joao Cancelo and Riyad Mahrez are shortlisted. City midfielder Phil Foden is one of only two England players to feature, alongside Alexander-Arnold and Harry Kane. 

Kane’s Tottenham team-mate Son Heung-min makes up the Premier League representation. However, now-Bayern Munich and Real Madrid aces Sadio Mane and Antonio Rudiger have been nominated largely for their good form at Liverpool and Chelsea last term, respectively.

Chelsea and Arsenal are not represented on the shortlist.
