Having been asked to play at left wing-back in a 3-4-1-2 formation, Rabiot was under the watchful eye of a United scout and failed to prove his worth during their shock exit.
According to The Daily star, the Red Devils sent a scout to the game in Bucharest to watch Rabiot’s performance and report back to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The French international will have been disappointed with the performance he and his team provided after they suffered a shock 5-4 penalty shootout defeat to Switzerland – following a thrilling match that ended 3-3.

Nevertheless, United are still said to be interested in the 26-year-old after impressing at Juventus last season.
The French international joined Juventus on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain in 2019 and failed to nail down a regular first team spot in his opening season.
As a result, Rabiot had been linked with a departure from the Allianz Stadium in a bid to revive his career.
However, having overcome his underwhelming first spell in Turin, Rabiot has now caught the attention of several Premier League giants due to his impressive form.
Manchester United are said to be leading the transfer race for the French international as they look to acquire his services for the 2021-2022 season.

However, they will have to compete with Manchester City as Pep Guardiola has identified Rabiot as a long-term replacement for Fernandinho.
While Everton may look to enter the transfer race once again after their former managed Carlo Ancelotti attempted to sign the midfielder in 2020.
Ancelotti made several moves in 2020 to link up with Rabiot – – who broke through into the PSG first-team under the Italian in 2012 – but was unsuccessful on each occasion.
Despite attracting interest from several Premier League giants, Rabiot’s agent previously told Italian newspaper Tuttosport: ‘The Frenchman is on Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City goal list. But he will not leave Juventus.’
Nevertheless, it is believed Juventus could offload Rabiot for £17million this summer despite the fact he has won Serie A, the Italian Cup and Italian Super Cup during his spell in Turin.
