Meghan Markle has been slammed for “disrespecting the monarchy” after it was announced that she would not attend King Charles’s Coronation.

After months of speculation, Buckingham Palace announced that Prince Harry would attend the Coronation without Meghan who would remain in California with the couple’s children.

LA-based royal expert Kinsey Schofield savaged the Duchess over her declining the invite and said she was “disrespecting” the King who walked her down the aisle on her wedding day.

“How disrespectful to not come and support not only Harry but the father-in-law who walked you down the aisle when your own father wasn’t there to support you on your wedding day,” Ms Schofield opined on TalkTV.

She added: “I think they’re entitled. You just discussed seating arrangements, I think that this is an example of being entitled. This is an example of not only disrespecting the monarchy but disrespecting your elders.”

In 2018, King Charles walked Meghan Markle down the aisle at her wedding to Harry after her own father, Thomas Markle, did not attend.

However, the King’s Coronation falls on May 6, the same day as her son Prince Archie’s fourth birthday. The Duchess of Sussex will stay home in California with their two children.

A palace spokesperson said: “Buckingham Palace is pleased to confirm that The Duke of Sussex will attend the Coronation Service at Westminster Abbey on May 6.

“The Duchess of Sussex will remain in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.”

Tensions between the Sussexes and the rest of the Royal Family have neared breaking point in recent months following several media endeavours by Meghan and Harry.

The couple released a Netflix docu-series detailing their relationship and eventual split from the Firm last December. In January, Harry released his memoir Spare which rocked royal watchers across the globe while levelling allegations at members of the Duke’s family.

In a series of interviews surrounding the book’s release, Harry defended his decision to write the tell-all while cementing the couple’s place in the headlines ahead of the King’s Coronation.
