Meghan Markle was spotted without her sparkling engagement ring for a second time as she and her husband Prince Harry rubbed shoulders with Hollywood A-listers at a swanky event.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made an appearance at the One805 Live! charity event on Friday evening, organised by Hollywood legend actor Kevin Costner.
The event was held at Kevin’s $26million (£21million) polo field in Santa Barbara, which is on Harry and Meghan’s doorstep.
The pomp and pagaentry of the event did not distract eagle-eyed observers from one subtle but significant detail, however.
The Duchess was not sporting her sparkling engagement ring – the second such time she has been seen without it.
As the couple posed for a picture, Meghan’s ring, which Harry gifted to her back in 2017, was conspicuously absent from her left ring finger.
This is not the first time Meghan has been spotted without her engagement ring. The Duchess opted to go without it during her appearance at the Invictus Games earlier this month.
While the missing ring sparked fevered speculation among fans, a source confirmed it was simply “being fixed”. Meghan was also still wearing her wedding ring.
Speaking to People magazine, the source said the three-stone diamond sparkler has been getting serviced after a placement came loose. Harry designed the ring himself and it boasts a large centre-cut diamond, which had been sourced for Botswana – a place close to Harry and Meghan’s hearts.
The Sussexes were grinning from ear to ear but one body language expert suggested Harry looked “uncomfortable” upon closer inspection. Meghan, on the other hand, was in full “gracious mode”.
“She looks entranced by the event and the company, while Harry appears less comfortable, looking rather out of place in the celebrity surroundings,” Judi James told The Mirror.
She added: “One of his [the Duke’s] hands seem keen to stay stuffed in a pocket and it’s Meghan seeming to keep touching him with her hand in small pats or pushes, using steering and encouraging gestures to help him into the right place at the right time.”
In her concluding remarks, Judi said: “It looks very much like Meghan’s gig, with her taking a much more central and dominant role here, perhaps swapping roles and status with her husband after Harry’s star turn at the Invictus Games.”
A veritable who’s who
The couple joined pals, Oprah Winfrey and Ellen DeGeneres, rubbing shoulders with Hollywood royalty for Costner’s event.
So-called last chance tables at the fundraiser – held at the Hollywood A-lister’s oceanside estate in Summerland – cost a whopping £9,000.
Harry donned black while Meghan wore a monochrome jacket with her hair pulled tightly back.
The couple were presented with an honorary award onstage by Costner before walking around to greet other attendees.
