Meghan Markle “doesn’t have a chance” of becoming US president, it has been claimed after she received a shock White House endorsement from none other than Joe Biden’s sister and political strategist.
The former actress has long been rumored to have US political aspirations, and that speculation took a bizarre turn when a major political activist backed her to run for the White House.
But president Joe Biden’s sister Valerie Biden Owens, who is also his political strategist, has endorsed Meghan Markle as a potential candidate for the hot seat, according to the Daily Mail.
Meghan also topped a poll in which Democrats were asked which women they would vote for. She tied with vice president Kamala Harris, and was ahead of former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, the publication has reported.
The shock reported endorsement of Meghan for the White House raised more than a few eyebrows during a debate on Sky News Australia.
The show’s host Peta Credlin asked her panel: “Biden’s sister, his political strategist, has come out and endorsed Meghan Markle for the White House. Is this a spoof, or is it fair dinkum?”
Sky News Australia contributor and primetime commentator Kosha Gada replied: “It seems real.
“I think they want a little bit of that ‘Markle Sparkle’, given all his other troubles that we have discussed before, but I don’t think she has a chance.
“Who knows? We might see her run for Congress in a very blue district in California but I don’t think she extends beyond that.”
In 2020, Meghan and her husband Prince Harry stepped down as senior working members of the Royal Family, before eventually relocating to the US.
Since that move, speculation has been swirling she could make a big step into US politics, perhaps running for a high-ranking position such as the Governor of California.
Other actors such as Arnold Schwarzenegger and Ronald Reagan have held the role before. The latter went onto become the 40th US president in 1981, running for two terms in the White House until 1989.
Meghan has made a series of interventions into US politics, lobbying politicians in the country for changes to parental leave and climate policy.
The former actress, who starred as Rachel Zane in hit US legal drama Suits for several years before meeting Harry, reportedly signed with renowned Hollywood talent agency William Morris Endeavour (WME) earlier this year.
Royal commentator Kinsey Schofield has revealed one of the rumors doing the rounds is that Meghan Markle is looking to make a big play in Hollywood.
She said during an appearance on GB News in the UK: “One of the rumors is that Meghan has set up shop in a hotel suite across from her agency William Morris Endeavour and that she has her eyes set on bigger opportunities.
“She wants to be a power player in Hollywood and that is not the direction that Harry has any desire to go.”
