The investigation saw a total of 126 referrals for fixed penalty notices (FPNs) to the ACRO Criminal Records Office. One find was handed each to the Prime Minister, his wife, Carrie Johnson, and Chancellor Rishi Sunak.

Downing Street said following the investigation the Prime Minister has been told there will be no further action against him.

It is understood that the same will now be the case for Mrs Johnson.

The Met revealed today, on May 19, the approximate cost of the investigation, nicknamed Operation Hillman, was £460,000.

Detectives worked on the case for almost five months.
