A 70-year-old pensioner has been charged with attempted murder after an incident in Essex in which a man in his 40s sustained serious injuries. Essex Police Officers were called just before 9pm on Saturday evening to Hornbeam Gardens, Broomfield, on the outskirts of Chelmsford, to reports of an assault.
Officers attended the address and located a man who had sustained a head injury.
The victim was taken to hospital where he remains.
“His injury is described as life changing.
A 70 -year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and he remains in custody.
Leading the investigation, Detective Sergeant Jack Mabbett, said: “I appreciate that this will have caused concern amongst the local residents but we responded quickly, and a man was arrested and he is in police custody.
“There is no wider concern to the public and we will continue to investigate the circumstances of the assault.
“I’d ask anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed the assault or has footage of the incident to contact us.
“They may even have heard a disturbance at the location.”
