The new Amazon film Red, White & Royal Blue has been criticised for using Prince Harry’s struggles with life in the Royal Family as possible source material for one of its main characters.
The fictional Prince Henry, who falls in love with the US President’s son Alex in the film, is even named after the Duke, whose full name is Henry.
In the story the character’s siblings are called ‘Princess Beatrice’ and ‘Prince Philip’, in a move that many will refuse to believe is coincidental.
Harry’s pain after the loss of his mother, his mental health battles and his difficult relationship balancing his private life and his duty are all drawn on for the plot of the film.
Claire Allfree writes in The Telegraph: “He [Harry] may admit to some private misgivings over the way the book exploits the very real loss of his mother, albeit in loosely fictionalised form: Henry – whose siblings are ‘Princess Beatrice’ and ‘Prince Philip’ – has been badly affected by the abrupt death of his father 14 months previously.

“What’s more, Harry’s publicly articulated real-life struggles with mental health and battles with duty, family and the paparazzi provide much of the novel’s fictional emotional capital.
“And forget accusations of unconscious racial bias: this Royal family are nakedly homophobic.”
In his memoir Spare, the Duke details dealing with losing Princess Diana at such a young age and how he came into conflict with many aspects of royal life as an adult, eventually leading to him and wife Meghan Markle deciding to quit as working royals in 2020.
However, royal author Robert Jobson might point out that Harry has only himself to blame for this level of publicity, thanks to revelations made in the Sussexes Netflix documentary and his autobiography.
He told the publication: “The popularity of this book does seem to suggest what many in Britain have long feared, that the Royal family have become the Kardashians of popular culture.
“And that has partly come out of the whole Megxit affair and Netflix documentaries. Most of all, there was Harry’s book, Spare, which dealt with a lot of areas that wouldn’t normally come out in public. It’s interesting, because up to now, British publishers in particular haven’t been very interested in this sort of thing.”
Harry’s breaking away from royal life has led to a huge rift in his relationship with his older brother Prince William, with the two no longer on speaking terms.
According to an insider, William’s wife Princess Kate has been making late-night phone calls to Harry in a “kind gesture” to help him and the Prince of Wales reach common ground again.
Speaking to Closer, the source said: “Kate has been in touch with Harry to tell him to keep his chin up and not worry too much about these temporary setbacks.
“Harry’s relationship with Kate has remained intact and it means an awful lot to Harry that she continues to show support and especially during desperate times like this when the chips are down.”
