Queen allegedly made this snarky remark over Princess Kate's modern redecoration choices

NewsQueen allegedly made this snarky remark over Princess Kate's modern redecoration choices

Kate, Princess of Wales and Prince William are thought to be spending some time with their children at their country retreat Anmer Hall in Norfolk for the summer holidays.

The mansion was a gift from the late Queen Elizabeth after their wedding in April 2011, and is situated on the Sandringham estate where the Royal Family traditionally spend Christmas.

William and Kate began using the property after they carried out a £1.5million renovation, which was completed in 2015.

However, Her Majesty was said not to be particularly happy with all the changes that were made.

Kate was reportedly the mastermind behind the new additions to the property, including a huge open-plan kitchen, which the Queen was not fond of and made her feelings known.

Royal author and expert Sally Bedell Smith told PEOPLE magazine : “I remember when they had just finished renovating Anmer Hall, and they invited the Queen over for lunch.

“They have one of those big kitchens with eating areas, and she said, ‘I can’t understand why everybody spends their time in the kitchen’.”

Kate is known to be a keen cook and often gets her three children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis involved in preparing meals.

Vanity Fair reported that Charlotte is keen to take after her mother in the kitchen “When Kate or the housekeeper are preparing meals in the kitchen, Charlotte will set up shop next to them, ‘her own toy set by her side to imitate.'”

During a royal outing to St. Luke’s Community Centre for the Commonwealth Big Lunch event in London, the Princess was helping to prepare food and revealed her children love to eat homemade pizza for dinner.

Speaking to a member, Yolanda from Bolivia, Kate said: “I’ve done that with George and Charlotte – making pizza dough. They love it because they can get their hands messy.”

George, Charlotte and Louis are currently on their summer holidays, having completed their first year at Lambrook School, close to Adelaide Cottage in Berkshire where the family moved last year.

The young royals could be spending their free days baking, as Kate once told culinary legend Mary Berry that she inspired one of Louis’ first words.

The Princess revealed in the 2019 BBC One special A Berry Royal Christmas: “I have to tell you, one of Louis’ first words was his version of Mary, because right at his height are all our cooking books.

“And, you know, children are really fascinated by faces and your faces are all over your cooking books.

“And so he would say ‘that’s Mary Berry’, and so one of his first words was Mary.”
