Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge had to completely revolutionise her fashion sense to become the “icon” she is today, a royal expert suggested. Kate was reportedly rather “reluctant” to shake up the way she dressed when she first joined the Royal Family in 2011. The Duchess of Cambridge has since emerged as a trend-setter when it comes to dictating fashion around the world.
Speaking to Channel 5’s Kate: Our Queen in Waiting, royal editor Katie Nicholl said: “She initially was quite a reluctant clothes horse.
“But as she’s grown into her role as the Duchess of Cambridge, she has appreciated the importance of fashion and royal fashion.
“And she does do high street as much as she does top-end fashion. It triggers what’s become known as the Kate effect.
“And that dress, or jacket, or blazer, will instantly sell out So Kate’s been brilliant for the British high street.”

Daily Mirror’s royal editor Russell Myers added: “She would’ve been told, or realised quite quickly, she was going to become one of the most famous women in the world.
“You’ve seen that evolve within her fashion style as well.
“As a global star, a megastar, an icon, this is really really important for not only how she’s perceived but how the monarchy is perceived all around the world as well.”
Kate has been an incredible advocate for British fashion designers for years, establishing herself as a trendsetter from the day of her wedding.

The Duchess of Cambridge routinely sparks a frenzy among her fans, who have been known to rush to the Internet in hopes of securing tidbits of the outfits she wears on official outings.
