Boris Johnson has accused Rishi Sunak of “talking rubbish” and suggested that the Prime Minister has misled the public in a row over his resignation honours list.
Mr Sunak claimed this morning that Mr Johnson had asked him to overrule the House of Lords Appointments Commission (HOLAC)to allow former ministers and close allies Nadine Dorries, Alok Sharma and Nigel Adams to become members of the House of Lords.
But Mr Johnson has furiously denied the claim.
In a statement, he said: “Rishi Sunak is talking rubbish.
“To honour these peerages it was not necessary to overrule HOLAC – but simply to ask them to renew their vetting, which was a mere formality.”
