Andrij Melnyk, the Ukrainian ambassador to Germany, lambasted Berlin for arming Russia while refusing to send military equipment to Ukraine. He said that in 2020 alone, Germany sold €366million (£300million) of dual-use goods to Russia which can be used to “boost weapon production”. Responding to the German action on Twitter, Alan Sked, professor of international history at LSE, said: “German policy in the Ukraine crisis is shameful.” The German Chancellor will today meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy in a bid to mend the rift. Western nations have warned that Russia is preparing to invade Ukraine, with the US saying Moscow could launch their attack “at any time”. Russia has denied any plans to invade Ukraine despite the build-up of some 100,000 soldiers on Ukraine’s borders.
