Sadiq Khan's new ‘black culture’ advisor called Tories ‘murderers’ and Starmer a 'scab'

Sadiq Khan has appointed a controversial new advisor on black culture in London, with tweets from his new appointee showing her accusing the Conservative Government of being “murderers”. She also questioned how Boris Johnson avoids being attacked in public, after calling him “the grim reaper”. Sadiq Khan has now distanced himself from his new advisor’s views, saying she has been “reminded of her responsibilities as a board member”.

On Monday, the Mayor of London announced a new “talented group to develop annual celebration Black culture in London”.

The group forms Sadiq Khan’s “Community Advisory Group”, and while unpaid will be in receipt of taxpayer-funded expenses.

Top of the list of appointees was Kemi Olivia Alemoru, the former culture editor of the now-folded Gal-Dem magazine, a “radical” publication produced by women and non-binary people of colour.

Tweets from Ms Alemoru have now come to light, however, revealing hardline views that slammed the Tory Government as “murderers” and described Boris Johnson as the “grim reaper”.

In January 2021 she posted: “Boris Johnson and the Conservative government are murderers”.

Responding to the tweets, Conservative member of the London Assembly Neil Garratt said: “It is quite wrong for Sadiq Khan to appoint someone with extreme and hateful views to a role meant to bring Londoners together”.

“I am especially disappointed that the Mayor stands by her remarks on attacking the former Prime Minister. In Britain we do not tolerate a nod and a wink to political street violence.

“She is clearly inappropriate for the job and I would urge Sadiq Khan to reconsider this appointment.”

His new advisor also posted a number of tweets condemning the Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer.

“No one can tell me that @Keir Starmer is not a Tory plant. He’s too s*** to be trying! He’s not trying to be anything to anyone for any reason. I wish he broke the law with that curry.”

She further accused Keir Starmer of being a “SCAB” after sacking Labour MP Sam Tarry from the Shadow Cabinet after joining a picket line of striking workers.

Ms Alemoru voiced her support for Jeremy Corbyn in the lead up to the 2019 General Election, who is now rumoured to be considering a run for London Mayor against Sadiq Khan.

In a 1am tweet in November 2019, she posted: “I love Corbyn so much”, followed by a post in April 2020 saying “CORBYN CAN NEVER GO HE LIVES IN MA HEART”.

She also dressed up as Diane Abbott for Halloween in 2017.

Lee Anderson, deputy Chairman of the Conservative Party, told the Express: “Londoners will be maddened by the Mayor’s spiralling special advisor spend”.

“Not only are these posts completely pointless, but it seems Sadiq Khan has rewarded disgusting comments with a job at his ever-expanding City Hall.

“Khan should apologise and put an end to nonsense non-jobs like these once and for all.”

Responding to a request for comment, a spokesperson for the Mayor of London told the Express: The Mayor does not agree with the views expressed in these tweets.

“The tweets have been deleted, and the individual has been reminded of her responsibilities as a board member.”

Ms Alemoru turned her Twitter account private.
