A single mum has turned a rundown rental property into a “beautiful” home on a tiny budget after losing her house just before Christmas. Lauren Griffin, 35, from Kent, was forced to move from her home when her landlord told her he would be selling the property, and when the single parent’s own mother, who had been acting as her guarantor, was made redundant, the young mum-of-two was “left in hell”, forced to rent a horrible house. Determined to improve the rental, which she described as being in the “worst state ever”, Ms Griffin embarked on a mammoth task to transform the house into an “amazing” home in just two months, posting the result on Facebook.
Ms Griffin revealed the incredible transformation in the Facebook group DIY on a Budget, where members show the fruits of their labour while spending as little cash as possible.
Lauren posted in the group back in 2019: “Living in private rented as a single mum I’ve always used my mum as a guarantor.
“This October I was given notice to move out due to the landlord selling up just after my mum got made redundant.
“Unable to rent anywhere else I had to take on the only place I could get through someone I knew that was in the worst state ever, barely even habitable with two boys.
“It’s been hell on earth and real testing times turning this place around quickly to make the nicest home possible for my boys in time for Christmas.”
She told FEMAIL that it took roughly two months to carry out the “amazing transformation”.
She painted various rooms in the property to get rid of the bleak and depressing aura, added new furniture, installed LED lights and upgraded the upstairs bathroom.
She added a brand new table and chest of drawers in the living room. Blued LED lighting was fitted to the staircase, which had its bannisters repainted, and to the bathroom.
She also had new laminated floors installed in the bathroom.
