Fired Fox News host Tucker Carlson has lambasted the current state of American affairs in a fiery outburst following his unceremonious exit from the hit network on Monday.
Carlson on Wednesday took aim at those wielding power in America, which he branded was “very much like a one-party state”, where the “people in charge” were stifling debate and becoming “hysterical and aggressive” because “they’re afraid”.
His outburst comes hot off the heels of Fox terminating his position on Monday, stating that the news network and Carlson had “agreed to part ways” last week but offered no explanation for the stunning move.
The move appeared to ambush Tucker, who ended what became his final show on Friday by saying, “We’ll be back on Monday”.
Taking to Twitter on Wednesday, Carlson appeared to take a swipe at Fox by sounding the death knell on cable television.
He tweeted: “When you take time off you realise how unbelievably stupid most of the debates on television are. They are completely irrelevant. They mean nothing.
“In five years we won’t even remember we had them. Trust me as someone who has participated in them. At the same time, the big topics that will define our future appear to get virtually no discussion at all. War, civil liberties, emerging science; demographic change; corporate power; natural resources – when was the last time you had a legitimate debate about any of those issues? It’s been a long time.”
Carlson added: “Debates like that are not permitted in America media.”
The fired Fox News host also skewered what he sees as deep state actors that pursue their own self-interests while eroding the foundations that America is built upon.
He said: “Both political parties and their donors have reached consensus on what benefits them and actively collude to shut down any conversation about it.
“Suddenly the United States looks very much like a one party state.”
He added that America’s elite has “given up persuasion: they are resorting to force” but the “honest people” would ultimately win.
“The liars who have been trying to silence them shrink, and they become weaker,” he said.
